(2) If yes, when was this decision made and has it been
communicated to all schools and parents?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this
question.
(1) Yes.
(2) Under the
Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education
2005, it is the responsibility of the Department of Education to give the same
opportunities and choices for enrolment to a child with a disability as those
offered to children without a disability. This will apply equally to
pre-primary students as it applies to all other Western Australian students. In
December 2011, the Premier announced that from 2013 pre-primary will become
compulsory for all children. A school enrolment campaign, which included
television, radio and newspaper advertisements, posters, fact sheets and online
materials, was conducted in July and distributed throughout schools and other
distribution points, including libraries and child care services. Further
information is available on the schools and news section of the Department of
Education website.
