MIDLAND TRAIN SERVICE
280. Hon AMBER-JADE SANDERSON to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Transport:
I refer to train services along the
Midland line.
(1) Have any
rail services during peak times along the Midland line, which have previously
been four-car rail sets, been reduced to two-car rail sets?
(2) If yes to (1), which services have been reduced and why
was this decision made?
(3) If yes to (1), will the four-car rail sets be returned to
any affected peak services?
(4) How many A-series railcar sets are in operation each day
during the morning peak?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of this question.
(1) Yes. The
Public Transport Authority has been strengthening two peak period services on
the Midland line as a direct result of the Liberal–National government's
railcar order. However, as a result of an incident at the Victoria Street level
crossing on 5 March this year, one of those peak period services on the Midland
line has been temporarily reduced from a four-railcar set to a two-railcar set.
(2) The service
that departs Midland station at 6.53 am has been temporarily reduced to a
two-railcar set for the reasons stated in answer to (1).
(3) Yes, as this
is only a temporary arrangement pending completion of the repairs to the
railcar involved in the incident at the Victoria Street level crossing.
(4) Forty-five
A-series railcar sets are usually in service but for the reason outlined in
(1), there are currently 44 A-series railcar sets in service.
