MITCHELL FREEWAY — WIDENING
366. Mr P.A. KATSAMBANIS to the Minister for Transport:
I have a supplementary question.
Given that that funding is actually contained in page 143 of federal budget
paper No 2 and given that the government's own backbenchers know how
desperately needed this project is, when will the minister stop playing
politics with the commuters in the northern suburbs and get on with the job of
adding this much needed extra lane?

AnswerView source ↗

A couple of things. Firstly, table
the page with that written on it.
Mr P.A. Katsambanis : Only you
can table.
Ms R. SAFFIOTI : You are
referring to it; lay it on the table.
Mr P.A. Katsambanis : Go and
look it up! Why am I going to do your job for you?
The SPEAKER : I am doing your
job for you. I call you to order for the first time.
Ms S. Winton interjected.
The SPEAKER : Member for
Wanneroo, there is no need to be hysterical, I can hear you. Just shout softly.
I call you to order for the first time, too.
Ms R. SAFFIOTI : This was a member
who was there for how many years and he did not deliver the project. If the
member for Hillarys has not noticed, we are delivering quite a few road
projects in the northern suburbs.
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Members, just
listen to the minister.
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Members on my
right, your minister is on her feet!
Ms R. SAFFIOTI : We have been
here for two years and there are road works everywhere, if anyone has not
noticed. The feedback that I get all the time is that there are road works
everywhere. I say, ''Short-term pain for long-term gain.'' We are
out there doing the catch-up, because when the member for Hillarys was the
local member, he failed to achieve one cent for it, and now he is here trying
to back up a federal minister who is making it up as he goes along and has no
proof. As I said, on issues to do with the federal budget, I will take the
advice of the federal Minister for Transport, and it is not there.
The SPEAKER : That is the end
of question time, thank goodness.
