ROYAL AUTOMOBILE CLUB PUBLIC TRANSPORT SURVEY
I ask this question on behalf of Hon Ray Halligan. I refer to the public transport survey carried out by the Royal Automobile Club of WA on Perth’s metropolitan public transport system. (1) Does the government intend to carry out a security and safety audit of all lines, as recommended by the RAC? (2) If so, when? (3) If not, why not? Hon SALLY TALBOT

I thank Hon Peter Collier and Hon Ray Halligan for some notice of this question, which I answer on behalf of the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure. The minister has provided the following response. (1) The safety of all lines is under constant review. Audits on a number of older stations are currently underway with reference to the principles of crime prevention through environmental design. (2) Not applicable. (3) The Public Transport Authority regularly surveys and implements security measures on the metropolitan rail system. It has comprehensive data on security initiatives, trends and safety hot spots. This information drives the mobilisation and planning of the transit officers, police transit unit and security personnel. In addition, all new railway stations are built and refurbished by adopting the principles of CPED.
