GREENOUGH REGIONAL PRISON — EDUCATION
PROGRAMS
318. Hon DARREN WEST to the Attorney General
representing the Minister for Corrective Services:
I refer to the education programs
available to prisoners at Greenough Regional Prison.
(1) Since 1 July 2014 —
(a) what educational programs have
been cut from the prison;
(b) why were these programs cut; and
(c) have any staff lost their jobs as
a result of the cuts; and, if yes, how many?
(2) What education programs are
currently available?
(3) Are all prisoners eligible to
take part in these programs; and, if not, why not?

On behalf of the Minister for Corrective Services, I thank
the honourable member for some notice of this question.
(1) Since 1 July 2014 —
(a) The art program.
(b) The art program was deemed to
be non-essential.
(c) Two part-time contract staff
have not had their contracts extended.
(2) Greenough
Regional Prison currently has the following programs available: certificate II
conservation and land management; certificate II construction; certificate I
industrial skills welding; certificate I health and beauty; certificate I
hospitality; certificate I information technology; certificate II horticulture
traineeships; certificate II hospitality traineeship; and certificate II
engineering.
(3) Yes.
Access to the education and vocational training programs is determined by
security ratings and gender.
