ELDER ABUSE — ADVOCARE HELPLINE
643. Hon AMBER-JADE SANDERSON to the
minister representing the Minister for Seniors and Volunteering:
I refer to the state government
elder abuse helpline run by Advocare .
(1) Is the minister aware that the
line will take information from alleged victims only?
(2) What is the rationale for this?
(3) When does the
minister recommend that neighbours or carers who observe possible indicators of
physical or financial abuse should report it?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the member for some notice
of the question.
(1) The elder
abuse helpline will take and provide relevant information from any person who
calls regarding cases of alleged elder abuse.
(2) To ensure the
rights of older people are respected, Advocare will
only act on the express wish of the older person who is allegedly experiencing
abuse before taking any action.
(3) The minister
recommends that anyone in the community who believes that a person is
experiencing elder abuse contact the elder abuse helpline.
