QuestionView source ↗

I refer to the community attitude monitor polling that the Western Australian Government has been undertaking. (1) When did the Government initially commission this community attitude market research? (2) Will the Premier confirm whether Market Equity Pty Ltd has been contracted to undertake this market research and report its findings on a quarterly basis? (3) How much is this polling costing the taxpayer? (4) Who chooses which questions or issues will be canvassed in the community attitude research? (5) Will the Premier table the most recent community attitude monitor, wave 5, of October 2004; and, if not, why not? Hon KIM CHANCE

AnswerView source ↗

I thank Hon Dee Margetts for some notice of the question. (1) A contract for the provision of community research services was awarded after public tender to Market Equity Pty Ltd on 28 April 2003. The contract was for an initial period of one year with two one-year extension options. (2) There is no commitment under the contract to conduct community attitude monitors on a quarterly basis. (3) The Government has allocated $200 000 a year to the research to allow for feedback of community opinion in metropolitan and country areas. Between May 1997 and December 2001, the Court Government spent $699 000 on attitudinal research. (4) Questions and issues for community attitude monitors are negotiated between the contract manager and the contractor, but they are generally consistent to measure changes in community attitudes. (5) Wave 5 of the community attitude monitoring has not been completed or received by the Government.
