CARNARVON-MULLEWA ROAD
I refer to the 1998 agreement between the Commissioner for Main Roads and the Shire of Carnarvon and Upper Gascoyne for the continuation of the Carnarvon-Mullewa Road from North West Coastal Highway to Gascoyne Junction. (1) Is the minister aware that the CPI-adjusted $20 million contribution under this agreement will be insufficient to complete the road sealing due to unforeseen increased costs? (2) Will the minister confirm that the $3.4 million allocated for this project in the current budget was provided as part of the 1998 agreement and is not additional funding? (3) Given that the agreement expires in 2007-08, when will the additional funding required to complete the works be provided, and what is the anticipated completion date for the project? Hon ADELE FARINA

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. (1)-(2) The current allocation is funding provided under the agreement. (3) The allocation of any additional funds to meet any shortfall in this project will be considered together with many other high priority roadworks across the state. As funding is provided for 2006-07 and 2007-08, any additional funding will be considered as part of the 2008-09 state budget development process.
