(5) The Government has implemented Tourism Crisis Funding, Convention Bid Funding, Government Travel Notifications and Government Liaison Officers business tourism educational sessions. (6) As per the Perth Convention Bureau's 2004-05 Annual Report, it received a total of $2 050 279 funding in the 2004-05 financial year. This included $1 010 000 annual contract fee from the Western Australian Government via Tourism Western Australia, $716 925 from industry contribution including membership fees, $123 354 from other revenue including interest. (7) According to information available to the Perth Convention Bureau, 10 convention centres have opened in the last five years, one in Australia (Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre opened June 2004), two in New Zealand and seven in South East Asia (8) The Perth Convention Bureau receives its main source of funding via its contract with Tourism Western Australia, and in fact, funding increased significantly in 2004 when the Western Australian Government provided a further $1 million, over three years, in Convention Bid Funding with the private sector contributing an additional $500,000.
