I refer to question without notice No. 198 asked on 16 March 2016 regarding the site
referred to as the Sisters, UTM Zone 50, Easting-596856.5, Northing7670793, which
was reported to the Department for Aboriginal Affairs in a report, dated 21 April 2008, and recorded as lodged site
24950 in 2008, and ask: (a) why, some nine years later, does this site’s status remain as merely lodged; (b) when is this site likely to be assessed; (c) what is the current departmental timeframe for the assessment of lodged sites; (d) is the timeframe referred to in (c), realistic, that is, are sites actually assessed within that timeframe; (e) if no to (d), what is the actual timeframe for assessing lodged reports of Aboriginal heritage; (f) why, on the Aboriginal Heritage Inquiry System, does the Sisters site show as a small circular area, which does not cover even a quarter of the actual site; (g) if someone planning to undertake activities within the area were to look at the Aboriginal Heritage Inquiry System, would they at first look, be likely to understand the extent of the lodged site; (h) if yes to (g), where on the Aboriginal Heritage Inquiry System is this information readily available; (i) if no to (g), what further inquires would someone proposing to undertake activities in the area need to make; (j) if someone were to search the Aboriginal Heritage Inquiry System, using the various options on the menu, would they be able to find this, or any other, lodged site; (k) if yes to (j), which option in the menu of the Aboriginal Heritage Inquiry System would allow them to find such a lodged site; and (l) if no to (j), how are potential land users to know that there has been a heritage site reported in the area?
