CAPRICORN METALS —
KARLAWINDA GOLD PROJECT — AIRSTRIP
729. Hon ROBIN SCOTT to the minister representing the
Minister for Mines and Petroleum:
I refer to Capricorn Metals'
plans to build a $5 million airstrip at its Karlawinda gold project, which is
65 kilometres from Newman Airport.
(1) Should the
department receive a revised mining proposal, will a failure to consult local
government be considered a failure to have undertaken extensive stakeholder
engagement?
(2) Does the
government intend to develop a clear policy position to prohibit the
establishment of jetports and mining camps within a set geographical area of
regional towns that already have this infrastructure in place?

The following information has been provided to me by the Minister for Mines and
Petroleum.
(1)–(2) Any mining proposal received will be assessed to
determine whether it has met the legislative requirements , including
whether adequate stakeholder engagement has been undertaken.
