I thank the member for his question. I know that many retirees live in his electorate. I am pleased to inform the House that I today launched the 2001-02 “Seniors Card Discount Directory” at the Westfield Carousel shopping centre. More than 200 000 Seniors Card holders in Western Australia will soon receive a copy. Mrs Edwardes: Will a copy be distributed to us? Ms McHALE: Yes, members will also get copies. More importantly, copies will be given to all cardholders in the State. The directory includes more than 400 new entries, many offering incentives in travel and tourism. Regional members will be pleased that the directory provides information on new regional listings. Mr Trenorden: Can copies be made available to electorate offices? Ms McHALE: I am happy to do that, if it will help the distribution. Following feedback from seniors, the directory’s design has been improved. I am also pleased that the launch coincides with the fulfilment of the Government’s commitment to increase the range of government concessions, providing savings of up to $1 140 a year. The new package, which will become operational on 1 July, includes rebates on water and local government rates and on drivers and motor vehicle licences. It is important that members on both sides of the House are aware of the directory and of the new concessions so that they can inform the seniors in their electorates. Many seniors are missing out because they are not aware of the Seniors Card or because they have not applied for one. I ask all members to do their bit to promote the directory and the Seniors Card, which was a wonderful initiative of the former Labor Government. It was the first initiative to recognise and reward seniors for their tremendous contribution.
