a) The previous manual system did not necessarily stipulate the category of adoption discussed at the point of contact. From July 2000 a computer database system replaced the manual system and now identifies the category of adoption discussed at the point of contact.
b) As indicated in question (a) this information is now recorded. This information enables the Department to track community trends and attitudes toward adoption by number of applications, their circumstances and the situation in Western Australia compared to other states.
