MAIN ROADS WESTERN AUSTRALIA — SPEED SIGNS —
HILLSBOROUGH DRIVE, NOLLAMARA
625. Hon AMBER-JADE SANDERSON to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Transport:
I refer to the 50-kilometre-an-hour
speed limit on Hillsborough Drive, Nollamara, which runs off the 70‑kilometre-an-hour-speed-limited
Morley Drive. There are regular reports of drivers speeding along Hillsborough
Drive, endangering children from the nearby school and sporting fields.
(1) Will Main
Roads WA authorise the erection of a ''Remember: 50 in built up area''
signs along this road, as there are along Creswell Road, Dianella, which is
also situated near a school and playing fields?
(2) If no to (1), why not?
(3) Can the
minister confirm that local governments are not permitted to erect such signage
on local government roads without approval from Main Roads?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1)–(2) Not applicable.
(3) This is a matter
for local government. Main Roads has an agreement with local government whereby
a council can install ''Remember: 50 in built up area'' signs on
roads within the council's area of responsibility on a temporary
rotational basis.
