Mr President - Hon Ken Travers : Another dorothy dixer. Hon GEORGE CASH : This question is about Joondalup. If Hon Ken Travers had any interest in his own electorate, he would let me ask the question so that we could get an answer. Yesterday I asked the Leader of the House a question in his capacity representing the Minister for Energy. I am advised that he now has an answer to that question. I will therefore ask the question, which I hope Hon Ken Travers will listen to with interest so that he can report the findings to our electorate. I refer to the power drop-out in Joondalup on 3 March 2005, and ask the minister to advise - (1) Was half the power capacity to Joondalup lost; and, if not, what proportion of the power capacity was lost? (2) How many - (a) households; and (b) businesses were affected? (3) Did Western Power write to residents who made claims, stating that Western Power’s policy is that compensation is paid for loss or damage only if that loss or damage was caused by Western Power’s negligence; and, if not, what was Western Power’s reply? (4) What was the cause of the loss of capacity? (5) How many complaints were received, and what was the quantum of those complaints? (6) How many compensation payments were made, and what was the quantum of those payments? Hon KIM CHANCE

I thank Hon George Cash for not only providing notice of the question but also his patience in waiting for the answer. Western Power was unable to supply the answer earlier, because people were working on repairs following damage that had occurred and could not get to the question. The answer is somewhat surprising. (1) Western Power has no record of a power drop-out in Joondalup on 3 March 2005. (2) Not applicable. (3) No claims have been received. (4) Not applicable. (5)-(6) None.
