SEAVIEW VILLAGE, HOPETOUN
I refer to page 3 of the report titled “Hopetoun-Ravensthorpe tourism assessment February 2009 Industry Development”, which identifies a number of issues as high priorities, including the acquisition of Hopetoun’s Seaview Village, an eco-village, from BHP Billiton for conversion into mid-range tourist accommodation operated by a national brand. (1) Is the minister aware that there is considerable community and industry support for this proposal? (2) Has the minister consulted with the Premier on this proposal, and what was the outcome of those consultations? (3) Has the minister consulted BHP on this proposal, and what was the outcome of those consultations? (4) Has the minister sought an appropriation for this high priority proposal; and, if so, for how much? (5) If no to (4), why not? (6) What will the minister do practically to ensure that a strong and viable tourism industry is a part of the mix for the future of Ravensthorpe and Hopetoun beyond the Ravensthorpe nickel operation? Hon DONNA FARAGHER
