The School Profile System was developed in 1995 and 1996 for use by staff of the Education Department of Western Australia. It was made available first on the Department’s intranet but was later made available on the internet to meet a commitment to provide school-based staff with access. The System included information supplied by schools for use in a School Overview section. In January 2003, a reporter from the Sunday Times asked a number of questions based on information in the Schools Overview. In gathering information to provide a response to the reporter, Department staff found that a significant amount of information in the Schools Overview appeared to be out of date and no longer accurate. The Director General subsequently ordered removal and review of the information prior to reinstalling it on the site.
