TAXIS — DRIVER BEHAVIOUR
104. Hon KEN TRAVERS to the minister representing the
Minister for Transport:
I refer to the letter recently sent by the general manager of
the Department of Transport's passenger services business unit to all
taxidrivers, advising them that the department has a very firm view of
behaviour that does not meet the character test, and this includes committing
any form of criminal activity.
(1) Will
drivers charged with possession of a smoking implement have their T extension—taxi
extension—on their drivers' licence immediately suspended or
cancelled?
(2) Will
drivers charged with trespass have their T extension immediately suspended or
cancelled?
(3) What
process does the Department of Transport have in place to ensure it is aware of
a taxidriver being charged with any form of criminal activity?
(4) If no to (1) or (2), what does the department consider to
be criminal activity?
