(1) In Western Australia the two public facilities with comprehensive integrated cancer treatments available are Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) and Royal Perth Hospital (RPH). Specialist cancer care is available at Princess Margaret Hospital and King Edward Memorial Hospital with significant cancer treatments also available for public patients at Fremantle Hospital and Joondalup Health Campus.
(2) No.
(3) No. Two Comprehensive Cancer Centres are currently well into the planning phase, one at SCGH and one at Fiona Stanley Hospital. These will network with all cancer care services and will represent an expansion of services. RPH (cancer services) are expected to close when Fiona Stanley Hospital becomes operational.
(4) The term radiology refers to diagnostic imaging and not treatment. The information is not recorded in the form requested.
(5)
For SCGH and RPH:
(a) The shortest wait times for urgent cases are 2 hours.
The longest waiting times for urgent cases is 3 days.
The median wait time for urgent cases is 24 hours at RPH and 2 days at SCGH.
(b) The shortest wait times for non-urgent cases are 2 days.
The longest waiting times for non-urgent cases are up to 40 days at RPH and 90 days at SCGH.
The current median wait times for non-urgent cases are 19 days at RPH and 35 days at SCGH.
Waiting times for all new patients to be seen by a Medical Oncologist is less than two weeks for both sites with chemotherapy treatments commencing according to medical prioritisation.
