Defence industry—AUKUS
106. Hon Sophie McNeill to the Leader of the House
representing the Premier:
I refer to the
recent and continued targeting of American military bases and installations
across the Middle East.
(1) Acknowledging these attacks, has the
Premier been briefed on the increased risk to the Rockingham community and its
residents in the wake of the state government's support for AUKUS and for
turning Cockburn Sound into a US nuclear submarine base, and, if not, why not?
(2) If yes, how is this risk being
managed and how is the community being informed?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. The following answer has
been provided by the Premier and I answer on behalf of the
Leader of the House.
(1)–(2) The premise of the question is incorrect
and alarmist. There is no "increased risk" to Western Australia, and
there is no "US nuclear submarine base" being established in Western
Australia.
