Government services - Early intervention services are generally provided as part of normal clinical practice in both inpatient and community settings. A specific dollar value can not be provided.
Non-government services - For non-government organisations a total of $975,000 will be provided for early intervention services in Western Australia in 2012/13.
From this total approximately $828,000 will be provided for Early Intervention services available either statewide or in the South West region; including residents of Bunbury, Busselton and Margaret River.
These services target people displaying early signs and symptoms of a mental illness and people at risk of suicide or self harm or at risk of developing or experiencing a first episode of serious and persistent mental illness. The aim is to prevent the development of a diagnosable mental disorder or reduce the impact of the disorder. Activities that may be associated with early intervention include:
· counselling;
· support groups;
· advocacy;
· referring individuals and assist them to access appropriate mainstream specialist services;
· developing links between relevant services;
· providing information and education;
· provide or arrange supports for the family or carer;
· telephone counselling services.
