With reference to the currently diesel-fired water bores on Garden Pool Road near Marble Bar, I ask:
(a) in view of Marble Bar becoming home to the biggest solar diesel hybrid power station in Australia, will the Minister make sure that the Water Corporation takes up the opportunity to reduce its reliance on diesel fuel to run the water bores located on Garden Pool Road just outside the Marble Bar town-site;
(b) is the Minister aware that the East Pilbara Shire Council considers that the cost to connect the bores to the grid will have significant long-term benefit, not just financial benefit;
(c) will the Minister direct the Water Corporation to discuss this matter with Horizon Power urgently, particularly whilst a number of contractors are in the town completing the project; and
(i) if not, why not?

(a)  Status quo will remain, however the Water Corporation will continue to assess the cost effectiveness of this option in the medium to long term.
(b) Yes
(c-i)  The short term priority for the Water Corporation is to maintain levels of service as required under its operating licence for both water supply and wastewater services.  The Water Corporation is not currently in a position to act on this opportunity, but will continue to pursue the option to connect power in the medium to long term, and as such, will continue to liaise with Horizon Power in its normal course of business.
