The Minister for the Environment has provided the following response - (1) No, the plant has not closed. However, Tox Free-ELI Eco Logic has advised the Department of Environmental Protection that it is now processing contaminated soil only on a project-by-project basis. (2) The plant will continue to process material, using the thermal desorption process, when sufficient quantities are available to ensure a positive commercial outcome. (3) The department has been advised that 16.2 kilolitres of concentrated perchlorethylene and some 76.4 kilolitres of material containing perchlorethylene, which is yet to be processed, are currently stored at the site. (4) The company has advised the department that it has electronic security provisions and contract security patrol services in place for the premises.
