SOUTH COAST MARINE PARK
785. Mr P.J. RUNDLE to the Minister for Environment:
I have a supplementary question.
The minister said he is delivering. Will there be any form of community
support, compensation or transition assistance for the disillusioned people and
businesses of the south coast?

AnswerView source ↗

I think that is primarily a question
for my colleague the Minister for Fisheries, who handles those issues. What we
have done together is deliver an outcome that means there is sustainability and
opportunity for commercial and recreational fishing ahead. If there is a need
for some sort of transition requirements or assistance, I know the Minister for
Fisheries would be very keen to be engaged in that. I would not call the
response ''disillusioned''. The member can find people who will
be angry and upset, but we live in a robust democracy and we try, as grown-ups,
to reach the centre ground where we give a good, balanced outcome. I know the
member has a different approach. He wants to listen to one extreme stakeholder.
Good luck with that, because that is not the way mature and effective
governments deliver for their communities.
