MEDINA PRIMARY SCHOOL — ROOF REPLACEMENT
PROGRAM
128. Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH to the
Minister for Education:
I refer to the ceiling collapse at
Medina Primary School yesterday in which preprimary children were injured.
(1) Can the
minister confirm that a request was made to include the school in the roof
replacement program?
(2) If yes to
(1), why was the school not made part of the program?
(3) Is there a
potential danger of the children being exposed to asbestos dust as a result of
the ceiling collapse?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
Hon Ljiljanna Ravlich :
Very nice!
Hon PETER COLLIER : I thank the member and I very
enthusiastically provide a response —
(1) Yes, a request was made for the
school to be included in the roof replacement program in 2011.
(2) An
alternative action that involved the removal, cleaning and reinstatement of all
roof tiles at the school was undertaken and completed in 2011 to address the
issue of the roof leaks. This work involved the replacement of broken and
damaged tiles.
(3) No. The roof above room 10 is a
tiled roof.
