MINISTER
FOR TRANSPORT'S OFFICE — SARAH BOSKA'S EMPLOYMENT
32. Ms R. SAFFIOTI to the Minister for
Transport:
I have a supplementary question. How
does the minister's answer today compare with the claim from the
Premier's office that Ms Sarah Boska had chosen to seek opportunities
elsewhere and was not terminated?

If I look at the way the letter was
written to her—I had a look at it—I do not think it was well
written. But Sarah did say to me that she felt, on the basis that there were no
other options available to her at the time, that she would seek employment
elsewhere. That is how she put it to me.
Do I think this could have been
handled in a better way? Yes, I do. Do I feel sorry for Sarah Boska? You bet I do,
because I think she is an unfortunate candidate. I am very much aware of the
innuendo that has been created from the other side out in the public forum. I
am very much aware of the innuendo that the opposition has tried to create out
of this.

The
SPEAKER : Members, I am on my feet now! Thank you, minister; through the
Chair.

Mr
D.C. NALDER : I would just like to point out another thing—this is
the stuff that has been fed back to me—that education is so important.
There were claims that were being fed back to me through the channels—gossip
or whatever we want to call it—that because Sarah Boska did not have a
degree, she was getting a free ride in. The opposition asked what innuendo has
been created, and I am giving it an example. Let me tell members, I have
employed thousands of people, and education tells us two things: that somebody
has the discipline to complete something, and the ability to learn. The most
important attributes when recruiting someone are their values and attitude. I can
tell members now that Sarah Boska has that in spades. If I ever have the
opportunity to employ her again—I do not blame her if she never wants
to set foot in this place again—I would definitely do so.
