WATER — SUPPLY — REGIONS
1580. Hon MARTIN ALDRIDGE to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Water:
I refer to water supply shortages in
the central wheatbelt and goldfields regions in January 2024.
(1) Was a formal
review conducted into the event that threatened water supplies in the height of
summer and during the high threat period for bushfire?
(2) If yes to (1), will the minister
please table the review and any recommendations arising from it?
(3) In reference
to comments made by the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Energy in
March 2022 to ''buy a generator'', has Water Corporation now
taken the parliamentary secretary's advice?
(4) What actions
have been undertaken by Water Corporation this calendar year to avoid a repeat
of last summer's supply shortages arising from power disruption?

I thank the member for some notice
of the question.
(1)–(4) The premise of the question is incorrect. In
response to the weather event of January 2024, Water Corporation utilised a combination of more than 20 generators, water carting and on-ground
efforts to minimise water supply disruptions to customers in the central
wheatbelt and goldfields regions. With ample water storage in reserve, water
supply to Kalgoorlie was unaffected and only a small area of the northern
wheatbelt area had supply interrupted for a period
of up to a day and a half. These customers were all on non-standard water supply agreements and most had their own required contingent supply.
