DATA PRIVACY LEGISLATION
234. Hon WILSON TUCKER to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Attorney General:
I note that the WA student
assistance payment scheme requires parents to download the ServiceWA app to
claim their payment. I also note previous concerns over the handling of data
collected through WA government apps, including the use of COVID check-in data
for non-health-related purposes and the lack of information security controls
over the WA Health's public health COVID-19 unified system, as
highlighted by the Auditor General. It has been almost five years since
consultation on new data privacy legislation began. Are we likely to see any
such legislation before the parliamentary term ends and the Attorney General
retires?

I thank the member for some notice
of the question.
The timing for the introduction of
legislation in the WA Parliament is a matter for cabinet to determine.
