(a) Under the Western Australian Defence and Defence Industries Strategic Plan, the State Government is seeking to grow the Defence presence and defence industry in Western Australia; by identifying opportunities our industry can support and participate in domestically, through the Integrated Investment Program, and also in other markets beyond Australia.
As part of this, among future projects, right now the State Government is seeking the transition of Full Cycle Docking (FCD) of the Collins class submarines to Western Australia from its current location in South Australia.
(b) An independent report by ACIL Allen has estimated the economic benefits of FCD being worth $8.4 billion in gross state product, equivalent to a 4% boost to WA’s manufacturing industry.
(c) The Commonwealth Minister for Defence has publicly stated that a decision on the ongoing location of FCD is imminent.
(d-e) The exact level of manufacturing and maintenance conducted at Henderson compared to other parts of Western Australia and Australia would be determined in consultation with the Department of Defence, the ASC (the Commonwealth entity responsible for sustainment work of the Collins class submarines) and on outcomes of future procurement processes undertaken.
(e)(i-v)(A) Not Applicable
