I have a supplementary question. In
light of the Premier's broken election promise to return state budget
surplus revenues as tax cuts, how can Western Australians believe a word he
says about future energy prices?

Energy prices? I thank the member.
This government has delivered about $120 million in tax cuts, and there is
another budget coming up.
Mr
B.S. Wyatt : A hundred and twenty?
Mr
C.J. BARNETT : Yes, $120 million on the rebate of payroll tax.
Mr
B.S. Wyatt : Does that include the $511 million increase?
Mr
C.J. BARNETT : We have delivered about $120 million in tax cuts. The price
of electricity is the big issue and it impacts on the cost of living more than
anything else. I do not support the carbon tax; this side of the house does not
support the carbon tax.
Several members interjected.
Mr
C.J. BARNETT : Mr Speaker, they are all talking, but this is a very
important point. The people of Western Australia have the right to know and deserve
to know: does the Labor Party in Western Australia support the carbon tax—yes
or no? If the Leader of the Opposition cannot answer that question, we on this
side know that it is because he is not allowed to answer it; he is not allowed
to express a view. The Leader of the Opposition is there, looking at the
lights, sitting in mute silence, because he does not have the capacity or
authority to answer the question.
Several members interjected.
The
SPEAKER : I call you formally to order, member for West Swan; I could call
everybody in this place to order; I could walk out now, because the behaviour
you are demonstrating would probably deserve that. That is the end of question
time.
