I thank the member for some notice of the question.
(1) As at 28 February
2014 there were 190 children in the care of the chief executive officer of the
Department for Child Protection and Family Support who were case-managed by the
goldfields region.
(2) Esperance, 21; Kalgoorlie, 141;
and Leonora–Laverton, 28.
(3) As at 28 February
2014 there were 23 general carers and 47 relative carers approved by the
department. There were a further 38 carers approved for urgent placements under
section 79(2)(b) of the Children and Community Services Act 2004.
(4) All children
who require a placement are placed. The department continues to actively
recruit foster carers, as we recognise that the more foster carers available,
the better the placement options are for children. For example, in the
goldfields region it is anticipated that additional foster care placements will
become available with a recent contract being awarded to a community sector
organisation to provide eight general foster care placements.
