INSURANCE LEGISLATION AMENDMENT (MOTOR VEHICLE
CLAIMS HARVESTING) BILL 2023 — LAW SOCIETY CONCERNS
253. Hon TJORN SIBMA to the minister representing the
Treasurer:
I refer to concerns expressed by the president of the Law
Society of Western Australia, Paula Wilkinson, regarding the Insurance
Legislation Amendment (Motor Vehicle Claims Harvesting) Bill 2023 in her letter
to the Treasurer of 1 March 2024.
(1) Has the Treasurer, or will the Treasurer, reply to this
letter?
(2) If the Treasurer has already replied to the Law Society,
will she please table the letter?
(3) Has the
Treasurer, or will the Treasurer, meet with the Law Society to discuss its
detailed concerns?
(4) In relation to (3), if so,
when; and, if not, why not?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided to me by
the Treasurer.
(1)–(4) A
response to the Law Society's letter will be finalised shortly. The
Insurance Commission met with the Law Society seven times throughout the
development of the new legislation, most recently in February.
