2. The proposal to provide alternative access to Three Bears was identified in the current management plan. The management plan was gazetted in 1989. The location identified in the management plan is a spur road to Three Bears along the road reserve between Locations 1046 and 660. The preferred quality of track is two-wheel drive, however, this will be subject to funding and acceptance through community consultation. 3. No progress has been made towards providing the alternative access option as yet. Structure planning for the Mt Duckworth – Ridgelands area adjoining the national park might produce a better access route to Three Bears if plans for subdivision and development are approved. 4. The current track is four-wheel drive only standard. 5. The Department of Conservation and Land Management is unable to give a timeframe for the proposed alternative access track. The structural and subdivisional planning process for the Mt. Duckworth – Ridgelands subdivision needs to be finalised to resolve the possibility of a public route to Three Bears through what is now private property.
