Since 1 January 2017 have any departments, agencies, commissions or Government Trading Enterprises (GTE) within the Minister’s portfolio of responsibilities purchased a drone and if so: (a) what was the make and model of the drone and at what cost; (b) were any accessories purchased and if so, what were the accessories and what was the cost of each; and (c) why was the drone purchased?

The West Australia Police Force advise the following:
(a) Since 1 January 2017 the Western Australian Police Force purchased one Very Small Category (Sub 2kg) Hobby Class drone and two Small Category (2-7kg) Industrial Class drones. The total cost of the drones purchased (including GST) was $37,198.23.
(b) Certain accessories were also purchased, including batteries, propellers, tablets, cameras, cases and storage satchels and charging stations. The total cost of the accessories purchased (including GST) was $53,710.07.
(c) The equipment was purchased as part of a proof of concept project for Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) to expand agency capability, improve efficiencies and increase service delivery particularly to frontline and specialist areas.
