ABORIGINAL HERITAGE SITES DETERMINATION PROCESS
821. Hon ROBIN CHAPPLE to the Minister
for Aboriginal Affairs:
I refer to the 35 Aboriginal
heritage sites.
(1) What is the status of the
remaining sites affected by section 5(b) of the Aboriginal Heritage Act?
(2) If it is still undetermined,
when will this be known?
(3) Why has it taken so long to
reassess them?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) Twenty-nine Aboriginal heritage
places remain to be reassessed.
(2) All remaining
29 places are scheduled to be considered by the Aboriginal Cultural Material
Committee by December 2016.
(3) The review of
the 35 Aboriginal heritage places is a complex process that involves
considerable consultation to ensure procedural fairness.
