I refer to the linear accelerator, which provides radiation therapy for cancer patients, planned for the Genesis Care facility on Shenton Avenue in Joondalup, which is set to open in late 2012, and ask:
(a) has the State Government contributed towards the capital costs of this facility, and if so, how much;
(b) is the facility still on track to open by late 2012, and if not, when is the expected opening date;
(c) can the Minister please clarify whether:
(i) this a completely public facility whose operation has been contracted to the private sector (Genesis Care) that will only treat public patients;
(ii) it is a joint public-private facility which will treat public and private patients (for example, charging the State Government on a cost per procedure basis for public patients); or
(iii) this facility will only treat private patients;
(d) when is the linear accelerator at Genesis Care in Joondalup expected to be operational; and
(e) once it is operational, will patients who reside in the northern suburbs who would have previously been treated at inner city locations such as Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital or Queen Elizabeth II now be referred to Genesis Care?

(a) No funds; this is a fully private facility.
(b) GenesisCare would be able to answer that question.
(c)(i - iii) Fully private facility similar to their facility in Wembley.
(d) GenesisCare would be able to answer that question.
(e) Patients can be treated in the public or private sector and can ask to be referred to radiation oncologists in either the public or private sectors. GenesisCare would be another facility they can ask to be referred to. There are some private patients who would currently be treated at inner city locations who may ask to be referred to the Joondalup facility; this however is between the patient and the referring physician.
