CORONAVIRUS —
INTRASTATE TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS
452. Hon ROBIN SCOTT to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to recent changes to the
zones and current intrastate border travel bans in place for Western Australia.
Can the minister explain why the health advice warranted opening up Perth to
the south west of the state, but not to the north or the east?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
With COVID-19 cases having occurred
in the Kimberley, Pilbara, midwest and goldfields, and the risk that the
disease presents to vulnerable remote communities and populations in those
regions, the opening of Perth to the south west of the state is part of a measured
approach to the easing of restrictions. Allowing internal travel within the Pilbara, Gascoyne and midwest areas, and
allowing access to Esperance from the goldfields, was also part of that measured response. The impact of easing travel restrictions will be assessed
and may lead to further changes.
