CURRICULUM FRAMEWORK - IMPLEMENTATION
I refer the minister to pages 35 and 36 of the review conducted in accordance with section 36(1) of the Curriculum Council Act 1997, which states that the Curriculum Council, after consultation with governing bodies or their representatives, instituted an arrangement whereby all governing bodies of schools and school systems completed a form that posed three questions by ticking one of four possible responses in each case. The questions were - (a) Is implementation of the curriculum framework supported by whole-school planning? (b) Are mechanisms in place to monitor and review the effectiveness of implementation of the curriculum framework on an ongoing basis? (c) Is students’ progressive achievement of the outcomes in the curriculum framework being monitored? The report also concluded that the intended operation of section 10 of the act had been dormant since the commencement of the act and would remain so until the lack of an appropriate mechanism to trigger the powers in section 10(2) was addressed. (1) As the report found that 2004 was the first year for full reporting, how many schools completed the abovementioned form about the implementation of the curriculum framework in 2005? (2) Has the Curriculum Council tabulated the responses from the 2004 form, and also, if it was completed, the 2005 form, into a summary report? (3) If yes to (2), will the minister table the reports; and, if not, why not? Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) All 1 014 schools - 723 government schools, 158 Catholic schools and 133 independent schools - completed the survey questions in 2004. The responses from schools were verified by the Director General of the Department of Education and Training, the director of the Catholic Education Office and the board of governors of each independent school. (2)-(3) I am happy to table this information. It is also available in the Curriculum Council’s annual reports. [See paper 2198.]
