RENEWABLE ENERGY TARGET - SOUTH WEST INTERCONNECTED SYSTEM
My question, which has been redirected from the Premier, is to the Minister for Regional Development representing the new Minister for Climate Change. In the light of recommendation 7 of the Greenhouse and Energy Taskforce’s “A cleaner energy future” report for the government, which is to set a 15 to 20 per cent mandatory renewable energy target for the south west interconnected system, I ask our new minister - (1) Will the government now support the Greens’ Electricity Industry (Western Australian Renewable Energy Targets) Amendment Bill 2005? (2) If not, what model of mandatory renewable energy target will be used? (3) If yes, when will the government implement the new target? (4) Are the government and the new minister aware that the European Union has endorsed the following additional targets for 2020 - (a) a binding 20 per cent target for electricity production from renewable energy sources; (b) a 20 per cent renewable energy efficiency target; and (c) a 10 per cent share for biofuels in overall petrol and diesel consumption by transport? Hon JON FORD
