I refer to the allocation of funding from the Emergency Services Levy (ESL) to Volunteer Marine Rescue (VMR) and I ask: (a) Is this funding allocated on a case by case basis; (b) does the commitment to now fund VMR from the ESL preclude other traditional sources of funding such as Lotterywest; and (c) will the commitment to fund cover both equipment and training?

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) advises:
(a) Funding is allocated to each group based on their individual operational requirements, in accordance with the DFES Volunteer Marine Rescue Services manual for capital and operational grant.
(b) VMR groups remain able to source external funding from traditional sources.
(c) VMR funding is used to cover the costs of all operational equipment purchases and some recurrent training such as first aid.
