I refer to the information provided in the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) 2010-11 Annual Report page 20 regarding
Service 2: Sustainable Forest Management
, and I ask in relation to maintaining and enhancing biodiversity and other values of forests -
(1) What are the costs to DEC of each of the following -
(a) managing an approvals process for access to harvest areas;
(b) implementing fauna habitat zones;
(c) monitoring timber harvesting operations;
(d) assessing 10 FORESTCHECK monitoring grids in the Wellington District, through the eastern jarrah forest, and trapping and surveying fauna populations to gauge their response to timber harvesting, and
(e) carrying out forest audits?
(2) Are any of these costs reimbursed by the Forest Products Commission or any other agency, organisation or entity?
(3) If yes to (2), which ones and what percentage of the costs is recovered?
(4) If no to (2), from which DEC program does the funding come?
(5) In relation to (1)(d), is information about the findings in relation to trapping and surveying fauna populations to gauge their response to timber harvesting publicly available?
(6) If no to (5), will the Minister make that information publicly available?
(7) If no to (6), why not?
(8) In relation to (1)(e) will the Minister provide a copy of the forest audits carried out during the 2010-2011 reporting period?

(1)(a)-(e) Providing the costs attributed to the activities identified in question (1)(a) to (e) is not feasible as the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) does not comprehensively record expenditure against these activities. DEC manages State forest and timber reserves for a range of values, not just timber production. Therefore, financial reporting reflects expenditure to manage these values across the whole of State forest and timber reserves.
(2) Yes
