I refer to the previous Government’s practice of tabling six-monthly reports on consultants engaged by the State Government. (1) Is the Premier aware that the last such report was tabled on 31 July 2001 for the six-month period to 30 June 2000? (2) Does the Premier intend to continue the practice of reporting to Parliament on consultants to government, and why, after 14 months in government, have we still not seen a report on consultants to the Gallop Government? (3) When can we expect to see the first report on consultants to this Government? Dr GALLOP

(1)-(3) We intend to make reports to the Parliament about those issues. Mr Omodei interjected The SPEAKER: The member for Warren-Blackwood! Dr GALLOP: That matter is being progressed within the public administration currently. Again, I make the point to this Parliament: this Government has adopted a much stronger spirit of accountability in the way it deals with these issues. Several members interjected. The SPEAKER: Members! Dr GALLOP: I recall the response from the other side of the House when I announced that members of Parliament who receive public money to go on overseas trips will be required to report to the Parliament, as they should under our system. Members opposite squealed. Several members interjected. The SPEAKER: Members! Dr GALLOP: The squeals that we heard on that issue indicate that a lot of work is still to be done in this Parliament about applying a new spirit of accountability.
