Rotary wing aeromedical capability
287. Hon Rob Horstman to the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister
for Health:
I refer to principal
recommendation 5 of the 2022 Chief Health Officer's inquiry into aeromedical
services in Western Australia, reported by Dr Marcus Kennedy to improve regional
rotary wing aeromedical capability.
What steps has the government
taken to implement this recommendation?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. The following answer has
been provided by the Minister for Health.
The Department of
Health has established the acute retrieval Western Australia steering committee
to provide strategic oversight over the implementation of the inquiry's recommendations,
including the improvement of rotary wing services for WA. Earlier this year,
transition to a newer helicopter platform increased the effective range the current
service can attend to, from both Jandakot and Bunbury. The Department of Health
is working with the Department of Fire and Emergency Services in transitioning
the clinical crewing, tasking and coordination of the emergency rescue helicopter
service (ERHS) to WA Health to drive greater integration in health services.
