FLY IN, FLY OUT WORKERS —
HEADCOUNT
1252. Hon ALISON XAMON to the minister representing the
Minister for Mines and Petroleum:
I refer to the Education and Health
Standing Committee final report ''The Impact of FIFO Work Practices on
Mental Health'' recommendations 1 and 2 regarding annual counts of
workers.
(1) Does the government now keep
this data?
(2) If yes to (1), can the minister
please provide the latest figures?
(3) If no to (1), why not?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the member for the
question. The following information has been provided to me by the Minister for Mines and
Petroleum.
(1) No.
(2) Not applicable.
(3) There is
currently no requirement under the Mines Safety and Inspection Regulations 1995
for industry to report this information to the Department of Mines, Industry
Regulation and Safety. Identifying and collating annually the number of
resource workers working separately in construction and production along with a
total figure for all fly in, fly out workers is a complex matter. However,
scoping work is underway within DMIRS and in consultation with industry to
determine how an annual count of fly in, fly out and drive in, drive out
workers in the Western Australian resources industry could be collated.
