PUBLIC VIOLENCE — NORTHBRIDGE
741. Mr P.A. KATSAMBANIS to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question.
Has the Premier spoken directly to the Minister for Police about the urgent
need for additional police resources to address the violence crisis in Northbridge
or is their dysfunctional relationship part of the problem?

AnswerView source ↗

I speak to the Minister for Police
regularly about these and other matters. I note that today the Minister for
Police was pointing out one of the largest methamphetamine busts that we have
seen in the nation's history. We know —
Several members interjected.
Mr Z.R.F. Kirkup : It was
poor navigation.
The SPEAKER : Member for
Dawesville!
Mr M. McGOWAN : You make your
own luck.
We know that the methamphetamine
situation that we inherited was dire. We saw that with Perth described on the
front page of The West Australian as meth city, and in the last
government, the former Minister for Police, the now Leader of the Opposition,
did not seem to realise this was going on. We have made enormous efforts to
deal with these situations, in particular methamphetamine. I thank the Minister
for Police for her actions, in particular the meth border force and other
initiatives that this government is taking.
