(1)-(2) The State Government Strategy for Tourism in Western Australia 2020 forms the basis of all of Tourism Western Australia’s marketing, events and destination development activities. It is not a separate strategy that required extra funding to implement it, but central to Tourism Western Australia’s business and funded through agency appropriation. In 2015-16, the Agency’s total funding, inclusive of Royalties for Regions funding, was $83.195 million.
(3) Tourism marketing is undertaken at a number of levels – national, state, regional and local – by a range of government and private sector organisations in accordance with their respective resource capabilities and responsibilities to reach different target markets.
Regional Tourism Organisations have primary responsibility for encouraging more Western Australians to see their own State. In 2015-16, the Australia’s South West Regional Tourism Organisation received $909,000 from Tourism Western Australia.
Additionally, Tourism Western Australia supports Australia’s South West and other regions through a range of initiatives including; sponsorship of events, marketing campaigns, regional forums, and industry development training programs. Tourism Western Australia provides Tourism Council Western Australia $355,000 per year to deliver these industry development programs throughout the State, including the South West.
(4) Tourism Western Australia provided $60,000 in direct funding plus staff time. An extensive response to Question on Notice 3949 has been provided. This response outlines what groups are currently funded in 2015-16, including those in the South West region.
