I refer the minister to the transport executive and licensing information system, which has resulted in incorrect licence information being sent out, transfer cheques being discarded and delayed vehicle inspections. Mr E.S. Ripper: Is this yesterday’s question? Ms K. HODSON-THOMAS: No. I ask - (1) Have Department for Planning and Infrastructure employees working with the transport executive and licensing information system been refused access to the results of a recent employee survey; and, if so, were they able to obtain them only under freedom of information laws? (2) Is the minister aware that these employees feel bullied, harassed and abused when they question the Government’s agenda? (3) Given that these concerns have been raised with the minister personally, why has she not taken action to protect the employees? Ms A.J. MacTIERNAN

(1)-(3) I have received daily reports about the implementation of TRELIS and the correction of the backlogs that accumulated during the first month of its operation. I am very pleased to say that those backlogs are being effectively discharged and that, in most instances, they have been completely dealt with. Some areas will take a couple more weeks to deal with. I have been speaking directly with delegates of the Civil Service Association who work in the licensing centres. They understand that the Government is very supportive of the tremendous work that they have been doing. I am confident that there is good dialogue between the Director General of the Department for Planning and Infrastructure and the staff of the licensing section. Delegates of the CSA have told me that they are very supportive of the work the Government is doing.
