❓ Mr Trenorden asks if the South West region would benefit preferentially from a specific recommendation in a newly received health report. The Minister, Mr Kucera, acknowledges the potential impact but states no decision has been made, defers to the Director General, and emphasizes a methodical review process.

I ask a supplementary question. Will the minister concede that the south west would have a preferential position if the recommendation were taken up? Mr KUCERA

As I said, it is an issue for the Director General of the Department of Health. We have only just received the report and on Saturday I met with the key members of the report task force in Bunbury. There are many recommendations that must be considered and this is only one of them. If that recommendation is accepted, as the member quite rightly said, it would put another complexion on the overall structure of the management team. At this stage it is not intended for that to occur. At the moment the single unified structure for country health services is headed by an acting executive director of country health and that system is currently working. If there is a need to review it, particularly in the light of the task force recommendations, that may very well be the case. That particular recommendation may or may not be accepted. There are many recommendations in the report that make good sense and there are many that will take some time to implement. We will work through them methodically, as we have done so far with all the renewal processes going on in the area of health.
