(2) The Acute Psychiatric Unit at Bunbury Regional Hospital provides a 24- hour seven day a week service that includes an acute inpatient care unit of 15 beds and there is an on-call psychiatrist and psychiatric medical officer for 24-hour medical coverage of the unit. There is also a telephone support service, called South West 24 , staffed by mental health professionals that provides a 24 hour, seven day a week telephone support, advice and psychiatric triage service for mental health clients, carers and other health providers. Bunbury Regional Hospital is currently recruiting additional mental health nurses to have seven day per week, 16 hours per day (0700 to 2300 hours) mental health nurse presence in the Emergency Department. This recruitment process is almost completed with the provisional commencement date of the nurses being January 2006.
