The total value of foster carer subsidies and allowances paid by the Department to departmental carers in the 2015-16 financial year up to 31 January 2016 was $29.537 million.
Foster carers approved by the Department for Child Protection and Family Support receive a carer subsidy, together with allowances for children’s clothing and pocket money. The value of these payments varies according to the age of the child. Foster carers approved by community sector organisations receive subsidies and allowances set by the individual organisation and these may vary between organisations.
